Christmas, etc (Part 2)

Let's move on from the whole presents/money/wrapping paper concept for a moment... to DECORATING! Once again, people are just COMPLETELY out of hand! I was in a local food store - a week before Halloween - and they were ALREADY setting up the Christmas decorations!!!! The day after Halloween, the Halloween candy was removed from display and Christmas candy, Christmas Lights, and Christmas decorations replaced them!!! Thanksgiving day, instead of lounging around after their Thanksgiving meal (a personal favorite pasttime of mine ;-) ), my neighbors in the building were outside setting up Christmas light displays!!!

So I suppose I've done enough rambling... My points are these:

  • CHRISTMAS IS IN DECEMBER! and does NOT start in mid-October!
  • ALL OTHER HOLIDAYS ARE SKIPPED because of Christmas (unless you live in the Southeast US where 4th of July is JUST as big a deal as Christmas - cuz dats when we can blows stuff up!!!)
  • CHRISTMAS IS THE BIGGEST COMMERCIAL CONTRIVANCE TO DATE! - While (depending on your belief system) this time of year is religiously important (See Judeo-Christian History, Jewish History, Pagan History) - that has quickly been replaced by the COMMERCIAL CHRISTMAS - CC for short! CC is what causes the issues I have in my blog entry (Christmas Part 1 - see the "related links" to this entry) as well as my dismay over the whole Christmas decorating scheme
  • DECORATING IS NOT A COMPETITION! - Every year, folks I know spend more and more and even MORE money for bigger/more/"better" Christmas decorations for the following Christmas. If some folks donated half as much money as they spend on Christmas decorations to "those in need" in their communities, there would be far more Happy people come Christmas day!

Stefan Richter's Gravatar Mid October? That's no big deal. Harrods, the biggest department store in London, has this year opened its christmas department on August 9th.
Yep, that's August and it was one month earlier than last year...
Sad but true. And once one shop starts this madness others quickly follow.
