Our Fallen Soldiers - second best again???
While most all of you know my feelings regarding MySpace and other social networking venues - ( see this article ), every once in a while a tidbit floats my way from one of them.
In a recent MySpace bulletin, I found a piece of information that just reaffirmed my opinion that there are times when our Government just "forgets" about the men and women in our Armed Forces. They "forget" the sacrifices that our "green suiters" make every day and they "forget" them when the Ultimate Sacrifice is made.
This bulletin stated that Ft. Lewis and several other military bases are now going to "consolidate" memorial services for our fallen soldiers that are returning home - rather than hold individual memorials for each. (see this article) They cite the reasoning for this is "that the number of soldiers in harm's way will preclude individual services."
Being prior service (Army) and a veteran myself (Desert Shield/Storm), I find this appalling. These men and women INDIVIDUALLY died in the service of our nation, yet now they do not receive the right to an INDIVIDUAL memorial service specifically for THEM???
Evidently I wasn't the only one who felt this way - as multiple petitions are circulating on the net regarding this "change in policy". So many people feel this way that the acting Post Commander for Ft. Lewis - less than one month after making this decision - is being forced to "reconsider" that change in policy (see this article )
In MY book, there's nothing to "reconsider" - PUT POLICY BACK THE WAY IT WAS. PAY INDIVIDUAL RESPECT TO EACH FALLEN INDIVIDUAL. Simple. Not Rocket Science.
