Tech Support Hell
I finally convinced the owner of the company that we REALLY should upgrade our existing users to Netscape version 3 (we had been distributing version 1 to that point - that should tell you how long ago it was).

Today I received an e-mail from a friend that I just needed to share with the rest of the world...
As most everyone who "knows" me is aware - I've been involved in the computer industry for nigh on 30 years. As most "old timers" in the industry ALSO know - Microsoft is the favorite target of anyone in the industry. We laugh, we poke fun, we berate - It's a love/hate relationship - Microsoft is the company that most "old timers" LOVE to HATE.
I know many of you have heard me go on longwinded rants about "what DO they teach our kids in school these days?!?!" Tuesday night's "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" TV show, however, made me call into question what they taught the very NEXT generation after MINE in school...
{While this e-mail was a hoax - I have seen the properties of it in operation on more than one occasion.}
Ok, so I was listening to the radio while taking my son to school this morning and I heard one of the dumbest excuses/warnings ever stated by someone that had broken the law.
After breaking into a home - a Wisconsin man warned the police officers that were arresting him that he was a WEREWOLF and that he could change shape at will...
PLEASE! Make them STOP!!!
So... while watching television last night, I saw a commercial that I chalked up to some kind of bad joke. However, today I read on TechDirt that it was NOT!
TechDirt points back to the original BBC News article Entitled: Viral e-mails taught in college. SO NOW WE ARE TEACHING COLLEGE STUDENTS HOW TO DESIGN BETTER SPAM!!!???!!!
We used to laugh and poke fun at college classes - things like Underwater Basketweaving 101, etc. But NOW??? I would be sorely tempted to lodge the biggest campus protest known to mankind on ANY college campus that thinks about launching a course of this nature. How can any college run a course that would, in turn, aid in legitimizing SPAM as some kind of ART FORM???!!! GAH!!!
Chatting with a friend earlier, and listened to their semi-hysterical laughter as they described the following situation to me:
They were reading along on AOL when they happened across THIS headline: "Another Way to Vibrate Yourself Skinny"...Well, of course, being a member of the male gender, my mind went to a very "wrong" place with that headline... The funny part was, the person telling me about it was a member of the "fairer" gender, and HER mind had gone to a very "wrong" place with that headline as well.
Of course the ARTICLE had NOTHING to do with that very "wrong" mental space that I had traveled to, but still... WHO thinks up some of these things???!!!
In an article in the Washington Post, that is currently being discussed on ZDNet (http://government.zdnet.com/?p=2690), the Pentagon reveals that it will be allowing deployed soldiers to vote via E-MAIL! (Orig. WP Article is HERE)
As a Network Security Administrator, I don't know what scares me worse... The fact that the Pentagon came up with this in the first place or that they actually DO NOT SEE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE! I understand that most average users are under the MISTAKEN impression that their e-mails are sacred and private, but hearing that the Federal Government is going to allow this as a method of choosing our nations elected officials is absolutely mind boggling!
